Pay for performance
We offer a compensation program that rewards exceptional performance and the achievement of objectives. Regular participation in market surveys ensures that we understand the competitive environment and comparable total compensation for the different markets in which we operate.

Our total compensation package also includes a variable pay component that is based on both employees’ individual performance and Symcor’s financial performance, or a productivity incentive payment that rewards top performance in certain job categories. Symcor provides employees with a flexible benefits program that offers choices to meet individual and family needs, as well as an opportunity to contribute to a retirement savings plan and benefit from company contributions that make saving for the long term a little easier.

Continuous learning and professional development

We train and develop new university graduates and new Canadians to kick-start their careers and set them on a path for growth within Symcor. We also offer a comprehensive management development program. This core training for managers covers the key elements needed to be a successful people manager including, coaching and feedback, employee development, goal setting and performance management.

Symcor’s widely used Appreciation Awards program allows employees to recognize their peers for going above and beyond in our team environment. It also gives supervisors and managers another way to recognize strong performance in addition to the regular feedback, performance, reviews and variable pay incentives that are part of every employee’s compensation program. Community involvement
Symcor believes in giving back to the communities in which it operates. We encourage our employees to become involved in community volunteer opportunities and programs directly supported by Symcor. The United Way is the recipient of the majority of our charitable donations and, each year, through our annual campaign, employees participate in dozens of activities that raise thousands of dollars to benefit the United Way in their local communities. At a corporate level, Symcor also makes donations and provides support to charities benefiting education and healthcare in North America.

Employee engagement
Symcor believes that well-informed employees make highly engaged employees. We’re committed to keeping our Symcor team informed and updated through regular communication, a company newsletter, a comprehensive intranet, management town hall meetings and pulse surveys to determine the issues and concerns on the minds of our employees.

We listen to our employees to gain insight into ways that we can improve our performance and create a satisfying work experience for everyone. Each year, we conduct a company-wide Employee Opinion Survey to help us understand our strengths and identify areas where we have an opportunity to improve. We’re very proud of the high levels of employee engagement we see across Symcor. For the past two years, 95% of targeted employees completed the survey and contributed to the action plans we developed to address opportunities.
